Courts / General Rights

life_legalissues_thmbEveryone has certain rights under the law. Sometimes, though, the court system can be difficult to navigate to get the information you want or need about what those rights are, and where to go to get answers. The resources below provide an overview of Virginia’s court system as well as information about court costs and fines should you receive a citation or ticket. Also, the legal system uses a lot of terms that aren’t always easy to understand. Check out our glossary of terms below to find out what they are really saying. And, if you are in a situation that has you getting sued in civil court, or needing to file suit against someone else, you’ll need to know what to expect, where to go and how to respond.

If you have detailed questions which cannot be answered using the resources below, you may consider contacting the Virginia Legal Aid Society for more information.
